Configuring a league
Previous  Top  Next

All the configuration settings to be applied at the league level can be accessed from the Configure League screen.

To access the Configure League screen, click Configure > League configuration from the top toolbar.

You can configure the following settings for your league:

League name
Any descriptive name for your league

League group
If you are managing a large number of leagues, you can choose to add your league to a league group. This will allow you to list available leagues by group, instead of always viewing all leagues.

To assign your league to a league group, enter a group name in the League Group text box. You can enter any group name you like. For example, if you would like to have all your leagues classified by type of sports, you could type "Hockey" as the group name for the league. Or you may choose to type "Europe", or "North London" for the group name, if your leagues are all about the same sport and would rather organize your leagues in a geographical way.

Assigning your league to a league group is not compulsory. If you don't assign your league to a group (or leave it assigned to the "ALL" default group), the league will only be listed in the default list view, with all the other leagues. If you assign the league to a group, it will be listed in the default league view AND in the corresponding league group view.

Country
Select the league country. Selecting the league country allows to generate statistics on national and foreign players for each team and overall.

Points calculation
This is where you define the number of points that should be allocated for each win, draw, loss, win on shoot-outs, loss on shoot-outs, in order to calculate the league table. You can specify different points for results of home matches and away matches.

You can also define an alternate point calculation system. This will allow you, when viewing the league table, to switch quickly between the "official" league table (calculated using the normal point calculation system) and the alternate league table, based on the alternate point calculation system.

Note: A specific setting has been added to support an unofficial point calculation system that has been used in the French professional soccer league: "use specific point allocation for wins with 2+ goals difference". Such setting will grant 2 points per win with 1 goal difference and 3 points per win with 2 or more goal difference, 1 point for a draw and 0 point for a defeat.

Total number of minutes per match
By default, the total number of minutes per match is set to 90, which applies to most professional football (soccer) matches. However in most youth leagues and in other sports, the game duration should be set to a different value.

Setting the correct total number of minutes ensures that statistics such as "Half-time/Full-time" remain accurate.

Teams play more than twice against each other
By default, that option is NOT enabled. This means that the progam will not let you save a match like for example "Newcastle - Arsenal", if there is already a "Newcastle - Arsenal" match already recorded in the same league. This is because, in most leagues, the teams play only twice against each other, one match at each team's stadium.

However in some leagues, the teams may play each other up to 3 or 4 times, in which case you need to enable that option.

Teams may play more than one match per round
This option has been included for very special cases in leagues where teams play two half-matches (against two different teams) and need to have their results appear within the same round. It is strongly advised NOT to enable that option, as each team should normally play once per round, even in the case of cup competitions that include return games. If you feel that you have no choice but to enable that option, please contact the author first for advice before using it. Most of the time there is a way around it.

When two teams are equal in points, rank them using...
Choose the type of "tie-breaker" to apply to teams that are equal in points in the league table.

By default, when a number of teams are equal in points, the program will consider the goal difference and then the number of goals for. You can select a different type of "tie-breaker" for leagues that use a different system.

Highlight team ranking positions
That option refers to how the most meaningful rankings (spots) in the league table should appear.
Using different colors to highlight the rows of the league table that correspond to specific positions in the league allows for example to quickly identify the teams that belong to the "relegation zone" or the teams that are potentially qualified for the Champions League, or promoted to a higher division, etc.

Rename match groups
If your league is organized with group stages (for example the Champions League or World Cup finals), this feature allows to customize the default names assigned to the available match groups. The league can include up to 17 groups.

Favourite team
If that option is enabled, the selected team will appear in upper case in the league table.

Customize stats
This section allows to rename default match statistics, match events, player positions to customize your league to different sports, or to track additional statistics.

Match stats
LeaguePad includes standard match statistics that apply to team sports in general and to football (soccer) in particular, such as the number of fouls committed, number of corners, etc.
In addition, there are 5 user-defined statistics, which you can customize. For example, if you are tracking a Basketball league, you may rename one of the user-defined match statistics to "Number of rebounds".

Match events
Unlike match stats (which are linked to a team), an event is linked to a specific player for a given match, and can have a minute attached to it.
An event is for example "Such player scored a goal at the 40th minute of the game". LeaguePad contains 16 pre-defined events (most are football-related) and 15 user-defined events which you can customize. For example, you may want to add an event called "offensive rebounds" if you are tracking a basketball league. Event statistics are tracked at the player level and can be analysed both at the player level and at the team level.

Rename player positions
By default, LeaguePad includes four pre-defined player positions: goalkeeper, defender, midfield and forward. You can rename these positions and edit a total of 20 different player positions.

Define custom events table
Click Events table to display the list of all event types. Each event type that you select will be included in the Custom event tables, that display statistics per team and per player for selected events.
