Feature FAQ

How do I track leagues for sports other than football/soccer?

Although LeaguePad has been primarily written with football/soccer in mind, the program can be easily adapted to track competitions for almost any kind of sports. If you only need to track scores and league tables, there is no specific adaptation to perform. However if you want to track you sport league more closely, and generate statistics on events and situations specific to your sport, you can make use of the following features.

Adapted scoring
When you enter matches, LeaguePad allows the entry of large scores like for instance "108 to 99", to accomodate for basketball-like scores. Likewise, the League Table supports displaying big numbers.

Customized types of events
LeaguePad allows to save and track events for each match. An event represents a situation or a condition that occurs during a match, and that you want to track, like for instance a goal scored, a yellow card or a missed penalty. Each event is associated with a specific match, a specific type of event (event category) and a specific player. An event can also optionally have a minute assigned, if you want to track the moments when the event has occured. A number of default types of events are included with all leagues. You can rename all event names so that they are adapted to the type of sport competition you are tracking.

For example:
  • If you are tracking a hockey league, you may want to rename "Corner goal" with "Short-handed goal".
  • If you are tracking a basket ball league, you may want to rename "User-definable event 8" with "Offensive rebound".
  • If you are tracking a rugby league, you may want to rename ""User - definable event 14" with "Drop goal"
You can define up to 31 types of events for each league. To rename events, select Configure > Rename events from the main toolbar.

Listing events of each match
Match events are listed in the match details of each match.
When viewing the match details, the bottom toolbar displays the following buttons:
  • Details: displays the goal and cards events of the match
  • Line-ups: displays the events associated with players having played the whole match and players substituted during the match
  • Events: displays all events saved for the match, in chronological order

Individual event tables
To view the statistics of any event at the team level, expand Team stats > Team events. The stats folder displays a list of event types for which at least one event has been recorded in the league. Selecting any of the listed events will bring up a table summarizing the statistics for the event, at the team level. To view the statistics of any event at the player level, expand Player stats > Player events. The stats folder displays a list of event types for which at least one event has been recorded in the league. Selecting any of the listed events will bring up a table summarizing the statistics for the event, at the player level.

Grouped event tables
If you would like to view statistics that show more than one type of events for each team or player, you can define an event table that allows to view stats for the selected events in a single table. To select the types of events that you want to include in the table, select Configure > Custom events table from the main toolbar. To view the customized event tables, expand Current stats > Custom event tables. Select either Events per team or Events per player, depending on whether you want to view the stats for the selected events at the team level or at the player level.

Customized match statistics
In addition to events (entered at the player-level), LeaguePad allows to track general statistics at the team level for each match. For example "Shots on goal", "Off-side positions", "Corners", etc. Some of these default match statistics can also apply to other sports, like "Fouls committed". However, you can also specify your own match statistics. For instance you may want to track a stat named "Total minutes short-handed" if you are tracking a hockey league. To rename match statistics, select Configure > Rename match stats.

Customized match statistics tables
To view stats on your customized types of match statistics, expand Team stats > Custom match stats. You can then select any of the defined match statistics. For each type of match statistics, LeaguePad indicates the number of occurences of the match statistic that has been recorded in favour and against each team. For example, if you are tracking a rugby league and one of your custom stats is "Handling errors", selecting that stat will show the number of handling errors for each team and the number of handling errors for its opponents.

Customized player positions
LeaguePad includes a set of pre-defined player positions: "Goalkeeper", "Defender", "Midfield" and "Forward". Depending on the type of sports league you are tracking, you may want to rename these positions and/or use additional ones. LeaguePad allows you to define up to 20 different types of player positions. That feature allows to define positions like "Quarter-back", "Sweeper", etc. To rename player positions, select Configure > Rename player positions.

Customized match duration
The default match duration is 90 minutes. You can specify a different match duration from the Configure league screen. To specify a different match duration, select Configure > League Configuration, and edit the total match duration field.
